A Prayer

(practically) Postmodern Prayer

Remember when I used to pray?
you were supposed to say...
yay or nay anyday now.
Remember when I used to cry?
you were s'post to reply...
with reasons why and how.
Remember when I used to trust?
you were s'post to be just
Faith in you, your son, and spirit a must, I bowed bereft.
On my knees, eyes closed, the pious experience had left.
tried to please; lies opposed.
Remember when we used to talk?
you were s'post to not mock...
foundation on your rock.
Remember when I used to hope?
you were s'post to be dope
comfort me when I mope.
Remember when I used to Believe?

part poem, part prayer, completely pragmatic. notice the meter, its unique.
8 6 6 8 6 6 8 6 14 14 6 8 6 6 8 6 6 8.

your supposed to believe but in addition it is your job to create. not to sit idly, watching the world go by, waiting on a prayer. you must walk hand in hand with god forging your creation together. i'll give kahlil gibrahn credit for that one.
